The Berkeley College Office of Military and Veterans Affairs hosted the February 15, 2019, training at the Midtown Manhattan Campus for Berkeley College staff and students. Participants learned the skills they need to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse challenges and crises. “The program is particularly helpful for our veterans, many of whom want to give back to veteran-helping organizations and to their communities,” said Agatha Funes, Veteran Program Coordinator, Berkeley College Office of Military and Veterans Affairs. “The training breaks down the stigma associated with mental illness like anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and substance use disorders.” She added that many people are affected by mental health conditions each year, and not everyone recognizes the warning signs. The next ThriveNYC Mental Health First Aid training at Berkeley College is scheduled for May 17, 2019.
