Photo Caption: Berkeley College student Carolyn Rijo of the Bronx, NY, was the proud recipient of a scholarship award presented to her at the 14th Annual Hispanic Business Banquet and Scholarship Awards Ceremony held on December 6, 2019, at Maestro’s Caterers in the Bronx, NY. Ms. Rijo, a Marketing Communications major, learned from her internship experience with the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NYCHCC) during the spring semester in 2019. She began her studies in the winter 2017 semester and plans to graduate in the winter of 2021. Above at the Ceremony event, she is with Nick Lugo, President and CEO, NYCHCC. Carolyn Rijo was an absolute delight to teach,” said Professor Lisa Karakas, English, Berkeley College School of Liberal Arts. “Her enthusiasm and zest for learning were rays of light in the class. As soon as she walked in, she would have a smile on her face, and that warmth spread. I am so thrilled that she has won this scholarship.” The award is designed to give a scholarship on a competitive and need basis to a student with a 3.0 or higher grade point average. The student also must submit an essay that includes accomplishments, how the scholarship would help the student excel, career goals, and an interest in playing a supportive role in Hispanic business and the Hispanic community.
