Berkeley College has named Robert J. Alvarez, a buy-side investment expert with public market hedge fund and management consulting experience, as Director of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program. In this role, Mr. Alvarez will ensure academic programs resonate with employer needs and prepare students to advance professionally in a rapidly evolving global market.

“Robert’s entrepreneurial vision and experience in curriculum development will ensure the Berkeley College MBA Program continues to be academically rigorous and competitive,” said Marsha Pollard, PhD, Berkeley College Provost.

Mr. Alvarez joined Berkeley College in 2015 as a Professor in the Larry L. Luing School of Business®, where he currently teaches courses in finance and economics. While at Berkeley College, he has been a pivotal part of the Financial Services Program. His leadership has been instrumental in the areas of curriculum development and student mentoring.

Prior to joining Berkeley, Mr. Alvarez worked in buy-side investment management, investing in both public and private emerging growth companies, primarily in the healthcare sector. His public market hedge fund experience focused on the small and micro-cap healthcare space, where he employed private equity-like methods to public market investments. Mr. Alvarez started his career as a management consultant, advising companies in areas including activity-based costing and value-based management. His research interests focus on capital markets, market efficiency, and behavioral finance applications in institutional investing.

Mr. Alvarez holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Joseph P. Wharton Award and graduated with honors as a Palmer Scholar. He also holds a BA in Economics and Government from Wesleyan University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

The MBA Program at Berkeley College is anchored in the core values of integrity, stewardship, sustainability, and inclusiveness.
