Photo Caption: Berkeley College students, faculty, staff and alumni commemorated the impact of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through volunteerism and special events this month. January 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of MLK Day of Service, an initiative of the federal Corporation for National and Community Service that encourages individuals to embrace Dr. King’s vision of community. Maria Mendez of Newark, NJ, and Roscely Medina of Englewood, NJ, play games with elderly patrons at New Life Adult Day Care in Paramus, NJ. Berkeley College students attend a private screening of “Just Mercy” at The Mill at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth, NJ, with tickets donated by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ). Students at Berkeley College campuses in Newark and Woodbridge also collected blankets and made sandwiches for the homeless, which they distributed outside Penn Station in Newark, NJ, through the Be the Change initiative.
