Berkeley College Graphic Design student Jonathan Moran of Passaic, NJ, has received the Virtual Academic Library Environment (VALE) award for his cover design of the organization’s 21st annual conference brochure. VALE, a consortium of 50 New Jersey college and university libraries, LibraryLinkNJ and the New Jersey State Library, is dedicated to learning through innovative approaches.

Mr. Moran was encouraged to enter the competition by Alethea Maguire-Cruz, Professor, Graphic Design, Berkeley College School of Professional Studies, working in collaboration with Maria Deptula,  , Library Director, Berkeley College in Paramus. “Jonathan has a great design career ahead of him,” said Ms. Maguire-Cruz. “This is the third consecutive year that a Berkeley College Graphic Design student in my class took first place in VALE’s statewide student design competition.”

A Passaic, NJ, resident and Passaic High School graduate, Mr. Moran will receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design in May.  The $50 prize he received helped to purchase a tablet for his digital art. After graduation, he plans to continue an internship with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest New Jersey in Wayne, and then secure a full-time graphic design position. “I am confident in reaching this goal,” he said, “because I know that Professor Maguire-Cruz and my other professors at Berkeley College are always there to help me.”
