Berkeley College Students from Sussex County Inducted into National Honor Societies in Virtual Ceremony

More than 150 Berkeley College students were inducted into six honor societies during a virtual ceremony this year, in keeping with adherence to the guidelines required for gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was held on March 24, 2021.

“I am proud of our students and their accomplishments,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “They have exhibited patterns of excellence that will serve them extraordinarily well over the course of their lives.” 

The following students from Sussex County, NJ, have been inducted into national honor societies at Berkeley College:

  • Amelia Candelaria of Hopatcong, Phi Theta Kappa
  • Jacqueline Ortiz of Hopatcong, Phi Theta Kappa
  • Camilla Kwok of Sparta, Phi Theta Kappa
  • Martha Chavez of Stanhope, Sigma Beta Delta


The Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society was established in 1918 to honor the academic achievement of students pursuing two-year degrees. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  

The Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society was founded in 1994 to honor students in business, management or administration who are pursuing baccalaureate or MBA degrees. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and must rank in the top 20 percent of their class.
