Berkeley College Students from Hudson County Inducted into National Honor Societies in Virtual Ceremony

BERKELEY COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM HUDSON COUNTY INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETIES IN VIRTUAL CEREMONY
         

More than 150 Berkeley College students were inducted into six honor societies during a virtual ceremony this year, in keeping with adherence to the guidelines required for gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was held on March 24, 2021.

“I am proud of our students and their accomplishments,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “They have exhibited patterns of excellence that will serve them extraordinarily well over the course of their lives.” 

The following students from Hudson County, NJ, have been inducted into national honor societies at Berkeley College:

- Brittany Feminello of Jersey City, Alpha Sigma Lambda and Mu Kappa Tau
- Guadalupe Parra of Jersey City, Phi Theta Kappa
- Darlaquaya Wade of Jersey City, Alpha Phi Sigma
- Ximena Cuadros of Kearny, Alpha Sigma Lambda
- Luis Martinez of Kearny, Alpha Phi Sigma
- Katherine Fernandez of North Bergen, Alpha Sigma Lambda
- Ali Shehadeh of North Bergen, Sigma Beta Delta
- Coste Yusil of North Bergen, Phi Theta Kappa
- Barbara Vega of Secaucus, Alpha Sigma Lambda and Sigma Beta Delta

The Alpha Phi Sigma National Honor Society was founded in 1942 to recognize academic excellence of undergraduate and graduate students of criminal justice. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

The Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society was founded in 1945 to honor dedicated adult and non-traditional students who handle their life responsibilities while achieving and maintaining a high level of academic success. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and must rank in the top 20 percent of their class.

The Mu Kappa Tau National Honor Society was founded in 1966 to recognize academic excellence and to encourage individuals seeking a lifelong commitment to an exceptional standard of ethics and achievement within the marketing discipline. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Juniors must be in the top 10 percent and seniors in the top 20 percent of their classes.

The Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society was established in 1918 to honor the academic achievement of students pursuing two-year degrees. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  

The Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society was founded in 1994 to honor students in business, management or administration who are pursuing baccalaureate or MBA degrees. To qualify, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and must rank in the top 20 percent of their class.
