Thornton Clubhouse in Paterson, NJ. Seven new and continuing students who attend classes at Berkeley College’s nearby Woodland Park, NJ, campus and Midtown Manhattan, NY, campus, as well as two Berkeley College staff members, facilitated activities like agility drills, an egg balance race, tug-of-war and obstacle courses. As a long-time supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic, Berkeley College’s efforts helped keep 79 Paterson children, ranging from first through sixth grades, engaged as the Club kids celebrated the end of summer and prepared to return to school in September. The opportunity was coordinated through the College’s Volunteer Leadership Team, a student-run organization established in 2018 to carry out community service programs, encourage service learning and enhance student leadership opportunities. “Berkeley College student volunteers were happy to spend time with the Club kids and have the chance to connect with their fellow peers before the start of the fall semester,” said Javon Joslyn, Berkeley College Director, Student Development and Campus Life, who participated in the service opportunity.
