The New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NYCHCC) recently awarded a scholarship to Victoria Sturman of Brooklyn, NY, during the 18th Annual Hispanic Business Banquet and Scholarship Award Reception. Sturman is pursuing a degree in Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding through Berkeley College Online®.

According to the NYCHCC, the annual banquet and scholarship reception supports student achievement and honors successful individuals and businesses that have proven their commitment to upholding the integrity of New York City communities.

“The New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to uplifting members of the Hispanic community in myriad ways,” said Cindy Estrada, Executive Director, NYCHCC. “As such, and in keeping with our commitment to improving the lives of young people residing in the Metropolitan New York area, we take great pleasure in providing this Scholarship Award to Victoria R. Sturman. Education is the lifeblood of every thriving community, and we at the Hispanic Chamber are pleased to do our part to ensure that students attain their academic goals and go on to pursue fulfilling and rewarding careers in their chosen fields.”

“Receiving this scholarship was an honor,” Sturman said. “It made me realize how much hard work can truly pay off and made me want to push myself even further.”

Sturman, who works multiple jobs while pursuing her degree, said the flexibility of Berkeley College’s online courses has contributed to her success.

“Online learning has been a blessing for me,” said Sturman. “The most important part of it, which helps me succeed, is the flexibility. Online learning also provides another extremely important benefit – time with my loved ones.”

Sturman said she enjoys the healthcare field because she is able to connect with the community’s elderly populations. She is also completing an internship with a pediatrician’s office in Brooklyn, NY, which has provided her with experiential learning related to medical billing.

“Once I finish my degree, my main career goal is to find a good-paying job – but more importantly, a job that I love,” Sturman said.

“Berkeley College extends our sincere appreciation to the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for once again recognizing the potential of our students,” said Annetta Ramtahal, Campus Operating Officer, Berkeley College Online®. “This scholarship will have a tangible impact on Victoria’s academic achievements and future career success.”
