Kelly Depsee, Senior Director of Communications and External Relations, has once again been named as one of City & State New York’s Responsible 100 of 2024 for her invaluable work with BerkeleyCares, Berkeley College's volunteer and service initiatives. Depsee was previously awarded a Responsible 100 in 2019 for her work with Berkeley College, and this year, City & State honors its alumni who remain standouts in their communities.

“Kelly Depsee’s recognition for her leadership with BerkeleyCares through her inclusion in the ‘Responsible 100’ is a testimony to the hard work and dedication all Berkeley College associates have when it comes to community engagement,” commended Brian Maher, Vice President, Academic Advisement Department and the Office of the Registrar. “Under Kelly’s leadership, BerkeleyCares has grown from a single day dedicated towards community service to a year-round mission. Those involved and the number of service-based organizations we partner with have quadrupled under Kelly’s leadership.”

BerkeleyCares was created to organize efforts that address important social, economic, and environmental issues in the community. Throughout each year, and especially during Community Service Week, members of the Berkeley community support organizations in the critical areas of food, health, shelter, and student success. Since its inception, BerkeleyCares has volunteered more than 16,000 service hours.

In 2019, Depsee, who resides in Cedar Grove, stated that her proudest achievement was expanding the BerkeleyCares initiative beyond just one day of service. When asked about the 2024 award and its meaning to her this year, Depsee shared, “Berkeley College has always emphasized the importance of people and community. This award recognizes the value of the BerkeleyCares initiative, which supports good works in our local communities while providing Berkeley College students, faculty, staff, and alumni opportunities to work together and make a positive impact. I am fortunate to be part of an organization that views success not only by what’s gained but by what is given.”
