As an immigrant navigating a new country, Dipto Roy faced his fair share of challenges. However, with determination and the strong foundation provided by Berkeley College, he transformed obstacles into opportunities. Roy’s education in Marketing Communication, coupled with his involvement in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), equipped him with critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills that have propelled him into a career of impactful service and success. Roy’s inspiring journey from Berkeley College student to a trailblazer in economic development exemplifies the transformative power of dedication and leadership.

A Promising Start

Roy’s professional journey began with an internship at Bokara Rug Company as a Marketing Business Development Specialist. He joined Samsung Electronics America in 2018 as a Sales Operation Analyst where he managed over 80 accounts and a $400 million portfolio. Roy honed his operational, analytical, and strategic expertise, laying the groundwork for his future leadership roles.

Making History and Driving Change

Currently serving as the Director of the Paterson Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), Roy is the first Bangladeshi nationwide to hold such a position. In this role, he leads economic development initiatives to support local businesses, foster job creation, and enhance the community. His work involves implementing strategic programs, collaborating with city leaders, and driving sustainable growth within the UEZ.

Among his many achievements, Roy was appointed Commissioner of the Friends of Paterson Parks Board in 2022. Through this role, he has championed the enhancement of public green spaces, reflecting his dedication to improving the quality of life for residents.

Giving Back to the Community

Community service is at the heart of Roy's journey. Beyond his professional and community-driven efforts, Roy cherishes the time he spends with his family, who inspire him to strive for greatness every day, and he envisions a future where his impact extends far beyond Paterson.

Words of Wisdom for Students

To today’s college-age students, Roy offers this advice: “Embrace adaptability, continuous learning, and meaningful connections. The world is changing rapidly, and the ability to learn new skills, think critically, and solve problems creatively will set you apart. Invest in yourself, take care of your well-being, and make the most of this time for growth and exploration. If I can do it, you can do it better.”
