“The DAISY Award is widely known in the nursing community as the highest symbol of nursing professionalism and dedication,” said Angelica Delacruz, DNP, CPNP-PC, RN, Chair, Nursing, Berkeley College School of Health Studies.
The DAISY Award was created in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes to acknowledge the care, support, and empathy shown by his nurses.
Mendoza is a graduate of the Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LPN to BSN) program at Berkeley College. “Glenda did not have an easy journey, but she managed to keep going and keep pushing even as things got tough, always humble and willing to help,” said Delacruz.
“This honor reflects a journey filled with perseverance, growth, and dedication,” Mendoza said. “Getting here was a true journey, but it was all worth it in the end; no matter how long it takes to get there, finishing and staying committed to the goal is what truly matters.”
Mendoza works at a nursing home and wants to become an emergency room nurse.
McNeil, a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, earned the DAISY Award for her work in the Practical Nurse program at Berkeley College. Delacruz said McNeil showed professionalism, kindness and extreme dedication to the profession and to her peers. “This is what we look for in our future nurses,” Delacruz said. McNeil plans to return to Berkeley College to pursue a Bachelor of Science through the LPN to BSN program.
