Student Health Insurance Information

Colleges and universities in both New York and New Jersey are not required to provide or mandate health insurance coverage for all students. In New Jersey, legislation signed in 2013 by former Governor Chris Christie eliminated the requirement for full-time students to maintain health insurance through their institution. In New York, there is likewise no statewide requirement that institutions offer or require student health insurance for all students.

While Berkeley College does not require enrollment in an institutional or commercial health insurance plan, students are strongly encouraged to maintain adequate health insurance coverage to protect against unexpected medical expenses.

Students may explore coverage options through the following resources:

These resources provide information on available plans, including premiums, deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, and potential eligibility for financial assistance such as Medicaid.

Under the Affordable Care Act, individuals may remain on a parent's or guardian’s health insurance plan until age 26.

Students are encouraged to carefully review available options and select coverage that best meets their individual healthcare needs.
