The New York State Education Department (NYSED) recently approved the National Security Bachelor of Science degree program offered by Berkeley College, expanding undergraduate degree options for students in the New York metro region seeking to pursue careers in the vital field of national security.
“The approval of the Berkeley College National Security program by the New York State Education Department provides an opportunity to increase the pipeline of qualified professionals in a burgeoning field that is critical to the future safety of New York and our nation,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College.
“Given that the current COVID-19 pandemic is an issue of national security, there is a demonstrated need to prepare professionals in this area, especially evidencing the issues that we are currently seeing related to critical infrastructure and public/private partnerships,” said Marsha A. Pollard, PhD, Provost, Berkeley College.
Berkeley College will begin offering the National Security Bachelor of Science degree program at its Manhattan campus in September 2021. Courses are conducted in seven-week sessions on site and online. Berkeley College in New Jersey has been offering the National Security program since 2015.
“National security touches every aspect of our lives – from the supply chain and the movement of goods and services, to terrorism and critical infrastructure,” said Gary Krulish, Chair of the Justice Studies and National Security program at Berkeley College. “Berkeley’s program helps fill the growing demand for national security jobs across a range of diverse areas in both the public and private domain,” Krulish said.
Berkeley College’s National Security program offers concentrations in critical infrastructure, intelligence, public-private partnerships, and information security. Courses are taught by faculty who are real-world professionals and have worked in the field of National Security.
The Berkeley College Bachelor of Science degree program in National Security supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) emergency management processes and philosophies.
Berkeley College’s degree and certificate program offerings were published in FEMA’s December 2020 Higher Education Program newsletter. They include Berkeley College’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Homeland Security; the Bachelor of Science in National Security with a Concentration in Critical Infrastructure; the Bachelor of Science in National Security with a Concentration in Public-Private Partnerships; and three Certificate programs – Emergency Preparedness and Response; Homeland Security; and Public-Private Partnerships.
