Center for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology

The Center for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology (CCIT) is a unified center to engage and support faculty (full-time and adjuncts) and all relevant stakeholders through programs and services that address the changing landscape of education, including curriculum design and revision, exposure to innovative pedagogies, and exploration of educational technologies. In pursuit of teaching excellence, the CCIT serves to enhance the culture of teaching at the college, and, in turn, continually improve the educational experience for students, ensuring Berkeley College delivers on its promise and commitment to lifelong learning. Partnering with relevant academic stakeholders (faculty, deans, chairs, academic program directors, and academic leadership), the CCIT serves to foster a culture of reflective teaching and a supportive community of scholars. The CCIT also provides oversight in the assessment of student learning outcomes at the course level, program level, and college level for internal stakeholders and external accrediting bodies.

Vision

As members of the teaching community, the Center for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology (CCIT) will be a faculty-driven catalyst in promoting innovative teaching, learning, and technology while preparing our students to meet the demands and opportunities of the 21st century.

Mission

The Center for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology (CCIT) employs a holistic approach to promote overall faculty professional growth, showcasing faculty success in teaching and scholarship, through programs and services that foster quality teaching and enrich student learning.

Services

Services Overview

The Center for Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology (CCIT) provides teaching resources for pedagogical development and support in the following areas: curriculum design, instruction/learning design student learning outcomes, student motivation, assessment design, teaching innovation, classroom management, student evaluation, competency development, design of course syllabi, program assessment, teaching across a range of abilities, using educational technology.

Curriculum Design

Curriculum design is a process where educators think about how they teach (the instruction), who they teach (the students, with all their varying needs), and where they teach (the learning environment). Whether it is at the course, program, or institutional level, it begins with the end, the learning outcomes, in mind.

The CCIT offers resources, workshops, and training for designing curriculum to improve learning quality, to achieve specific results, beginning with learning goals, assessments, and then instructional strategies and learning activities.

Instruction/Learning Design

Instruction focuses on the teacher, what they do, and how they convey material, learning focuses on the student, what they do, and how they acquire knowledge. While instruction is important, learning design is the framework that supports quality learning experiences. Services offered by the CCIT focus on the decisions that need to be made about the content, structure, timing, pedagogical strategies, sequence of learning activities, and the type and frequency of assessment in the course, as well as the nature of technology used to support learning.

Innovative Technology Integration

Educational technology empowers educators to engage with students wherever they are, whatever situation they are in, and in whatever way they learn best. It enables educators to move into new dimensions of teaching and learning by leveraging technology to reimagine learning. The essential objective of integrating educational technology is to improve the quality of education and enhance the learning process, thus positively impacting learning outcomes. Comprehensive educational technology support, training, and resources offered by the CCIT assist faculty to select technologies that align to and support learning objectives, to make education more equitable and achievable for a diverse student population.

Individual Faculty Consultations

All faculty (full-time and adjunct) members, and especially new faculty members, are welcome to schedule a consultation with a CCIT team member at any point in the semester.
