The flexibility to balance a world-class education with professional commitments

Taking advantage of Berkeley College’s 25-year tradition of excellence in online education, Berkeley College alumna Jessica Blodgett pursued a Bachelor of Science in International Business. When Blodgett had an opportunity to launch a business in Colombia, where she holds dual citizenship, she elected not to put her education on hold, but rather to continue as an online student.

“Taking a semester online allowed me to work abroad – before virtual learning was a more common thing,” said Blodgett, a 2015 graduate who now works as Director of People, Culture, and Community for CMMB, an international nongovernmental organization that provides medical and development aid to developing communities. “I was able to learn about international business in Colombia and the nuances of business in another country. I have kept the entrepreneurial spirit with me even as I work for other organizations – staying curious, looking for new opportunities within my industry, and taking risks in my career have led me to where I am now.”

No need for family obligations to suffer

Victoria Sturman of Brooklyn, NY, is pursuing her degree in Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding, as an online student. Sturman said the flexibility of online courses has contributed to her success, and she was recently was awarded a scholarship from the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for her academic achievements.

“Online learning has been a blessing for me,” said Sturman, who works multiple jobs and is completing an internship with a pediatrician’s office in Brooklyn. “The most important part of it, which helps me succeed, is the flexibility. Online learning also provides another extremely important benefit – time with my loved ones.”
