Dr. Danielle Sonnenberg is a Social Science and Applied Media Professor at Berkeley. She served on the faculty development team for the new program in Applied Media. She holds a PhD in Human Development from Fielding Graduate University, an MA/MS from The New School, and a BA from Fordham University.

Dr. Sonnenberg began her journalism career at the New York Post and later worked as a full-time reporter for Institutional Investor and TheStreet.com. She has freelanced for several publications, including Inc. Magazine, New York Arts Magazine, and Lifestyles Magazine. Her passion for storytelling led her to produce, direct, and star in a documentary film about happiness.

Her dissertation, “The Emotional Challenges of Teaching Online,” focuses on the differences in emotional connection experienced by professors teaching online versus in person.

Dr. Sonnenberg's curiosity drew her to careers in both education and journalism. She loves asking hard questions and engaging with the people around her.
