Berkeley College Announces Newark Promise Grant, an Opportunity for Qualified Essex County Residents to Earn a Degree Debt-Free

Berkeley College recently announced the Newark Promise Grant, an opportunity for qualified residents of Essex County, NJ, to pursue a degree without incurring any loans for tuition and fees. Interested residents who meet the grant requirements must enroll as full-time Associate’s degree students at Berkeley College in Newark, NJ. Qualified students may enroll for the fall 2023 semester, which begins on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

The Berkeley College Newark Promise Grant applies to Associate’s degree programs in Business Administration – Management; Health Services Administration; Information Technology Management; Justice Studies – Criminal Justice; Health Services Administration – Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding; Medical Assistant; and Health Sciences. 

Students who successfully complete an Associate’s degree in Management, Information Technology Management, Health Services Administration, or Justice Studies – Criminal Justice may be eligible to continue in a Bachelor’s degree program, debt free, online or at the Berkeley College Woodland Park campus, if they continue to meet the program criteria and have sufficient federal and state financial aid eligibility. 

Qualified students will receive the Berkeley College Newark Promise Grant to cover tuition and fees after all federal and state grants have been applied. 

Berkeley College’s History in Essex County

Berkeley College was established on September 28, 1931, in East Orange, NJ. The College marked its return to Essex County with the opening of a Newark campus in 2006 and has been part of the City’s economic revival.

Since its opening, more than 1,700 degrees and certificates have been awarded to students who began their educational journeys at Berkeley College in Newark.

In 2021 Berkeley College celebrated its 90-year history in New Jersey with a tree-planting ceremony in Newark’s Harriet Tubman Square. Sheila Y. Oliver, New Jersey Lieutenant Governor; M. Teresa Ruiz, New Jersey Senator; and Ras J. Baraka, Mayor of Newark, were among the dignitaries to pay tribute to the College at the event.
