Berkeley College announces the launch of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Interior Design degree program at its New York City campus. The program, approved to be offered on-site and online by the New York State Board of Regents in May 2023, prepares students for licensure as interior designers and for many roles in the architectural and construction industries.

“Berkeley College is proud to announce its BFA in Interior Design degree program, the College’s first Bachelor’s degree-level program within the engineering discipline in New York City,” said Marianne Vakalis, EdD, Interim Provost and Dean, Berkeley College School of Professional Studies. “This program equips students with the technical and creative skills that can open doors to professional success in one of the most architecturally diverse cities in the world.”

The BFA program includes coursework in architectural and interior design history, building codes and regulations, construction methods, lighting, furniture design, computer-aided design, and the psychology of design. Graduates of the program can pursue careers with interior design and architectural firms, as well as in product sales, project management, and within other facets of the industry.

“Berkeley College faculty are selected both for their academic credentials and professional experience, sharing firsthand knowledge of the interior design industry in the classroom,” said Alfonso Torino, PhD, Chair, Interior Design, Berkeley College School of Professional Studies. “Graduates of the BFA in Interior Design program will be well-prepared to meet the needs of the future workforce and make their mark in successful careers.”

Students enrolled in the BFA in Interior Design program will complete an internship prior to graduation. The Berkeley College Career Services Department assists each student in pursuing internship opportunities that are best suited to their interests and abilities.

Berkeley College has offered an accredited BFA in Interior Design program at its Woodland Park, NJ, campus since 2017. The College also offers an Associate in Applied Science and a Certificate in Interior Design at the Woodland Park campus and online.
