Berkeley College student Tania Mottos of Wanaque, NJ, was among 175 college students named to the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Student Voting Honor Roll, recognizing college students nationwide who go above and beyond to advance nonpartisan student voter engagement on campus and in their surrounding communities. This is the second consecutive year a Berkeley College student has been recognized.

Mottos holds an Associate in Applied Science in Surgical Technology from Berkeley College, and is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Health Services Management.

“This year’s honorees played a crucial part in registering and empowering student voters ahead of last year’s midterm elections, resulting in historic turnout among young voters,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director, ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These students organized voter registration drives, coordinated campuswide voter engagement resources, and brought polling locations to their campuses. We are excited to watch these students continue to change the world.”

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge engages more than 9.8 million students from more than 960 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

As a student leader and Berkeley College Student Government Association ambassador, Mottos led campus efforts to promote voter registration, including handing out snack bags with a QR code that directed students to information on registration and polling locations.

“We are the creators of our own future, and we have the choice at our fingertips,” Mottos said. “Many others are not able to vote and don’t have that voice. As the newest generation we have the responsibility to shape our country not only for ourselves but also for the newer generations that are to come.”

In addition to her role with the Student Government Association, Mottos is a student representative for the Berkeley College Board of Trustees and is active in the Middle Eastern Student Association (MESA). She was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the oldest and largest national honor society for nontraditional students. She completed a clinical practicum for her Surgical Technology program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and is employed as a Certified Surgical Technologist in the Labor and Delivery department of Chilton Medical Center in Pequannock, NJ.
