Monica Martins, Human Resources Coordinator, Spencer Savings Bank, will complete the Berkeley College Continuing Education Human Resources Management Certificate this spring. The five-course program goes beyond the fundamentals of human resources to help professionals manage ongoing changes that impact the workplace.
Martins recently shared how she has embraced lifelong learning, and the many ways the Berkeley College Continuing Education (CE) program has helped her advance toward success.

Q: What led you to the Berkeley College Continuing Education Human Resources Management Certificate? What was your motivation to continue your education?
My opportunity to take a new career path at my current employer led me to enroll at Berkeley College for a Continuing Education Human Resources Management Certificate. To fulfill my job to the best of my abilities, taking on this certificate has opened a world of clarity and understanding of my role as an HR Coordinator.
My colleagues have been supportive of my new journey, and my family has been my biggest cheerleaders, with unconditional support and patience throughout.
Q: What are your short- and long-term career goals, and how do you see this certificate helping you achieve them?
My short-term goal is to obtain as much understanding and knowledge of Human Resources as possible. My long-term goal is to become a Director of Human Resources one day. Taking this certificate will give me the tools I will need to continue to advance my career.
Q: How is the certificate relevant to your current work in Human Resources?
As an HR Coordinator, I learn new things every day. From recruiting to welcoming new hires and everything in between, these experiences have been learning milestones for me. Pursuing this certificate has helped me to better understand the importance of training, laws, and ways to approach various HR situations. Working with a team that gives me the freedom to share my knowledge has also helped me apply the lessons from my courses to real-world situations.
Q: What is your advice to other professionals considering pursuing a certificate or other professional development?
My advice to anyone would be never to hold back when advancing your career and future opportunities.
Q: Why would you recommend the Berkeley College Continuing Education/Stackable Credentials program?
I would recommend the Berkeley College Continuing Education program to anyone looking to advance in their career because educating yourself allows for more growth and opportunities in the future.
