In the heart of NYC, studying on-campus at Berkeley College offers many benefits
The popularity of online learning is no secret. But more and more students are returning to the Berkeley College campus in Midtown Manhattan, finding that the activities—both academic and social—and the networking opportunities offer many advantages.
Learning in the fashion district from fashion professionals
“Our fashion program takes every advantage of our amazing NYC location in the heart of the fashion district,” according to Andrea Kennedy, Lead Faculty in the College’s Fashion Merchandising and Management program. “Our students engage with the industry on a weekly basis, whether it's through visits to showrooms, trade shows and factories, or with professional guest speakers in their classrooms and at our on-campus speaker sessions.” She continued,
“With real-world brand-projects that are embedded in their courses, our students are in front of industry non-stop! What's exciting about all our brand projects, is that it's project-based learning that allows students to help solve problems for real fashion businesses and meet, greet, network, and receive working feedback from the people running the brands!”
Leveraging the world’s most strategic location
“There’s always something going on here,” said Linda Mauro, Campus Operating Officer (COO) at the Berkeley New York City campus. “It’s a very vibrant atmosphere that really enhances the education. Many students are craving the on-site classroom experience and we are working very hard to offer a fair mix to accommodate all learners. That is what makes Berkeley so convenient—the flexibility of online, on site, and hybrid options to fit everyone’s busy lives.” She went on, “Here, you’re exposed to students—and their cultures and customs—from all around the world. And that’s a huge benefit when students enter the global business world.” Berkeley currently enrolls more than 290 international students, representing 57 countries. Multicultural events are held regularly, and a variety of cultural clubs offer the chance to get to know students from many different backgrounds.
Sherille Shabazz, EdD, Vice President, Student Development and Campus Life at Berkeley College, added, “The International Student Club, Fashion Club, Caribbean Student Association, Uniquely You, and Student Government Association are just some of the clubs at the New York City campus, where we also have the Food Pantry, and a variety of on-site volunteer opportunities.”
Making connections can make all the difference
Business education, an area where Berkeley College has excelled for more than 90 years, also benefits from the campus environment, which is literally steps away from many of the world’s most prominent companies. The proximity makes it possible for students to participate in internships with leading firms, attend industry events, and hear top-notch guest speakers from various industries on a regular basis.
Berkeley’s MBA (Master of Business Administration) program, offered at the New York City campus, as well as in Woodland Park, NJ and online, allows working professionals to benefit from in-person time with professors and classmates. The environment is conducive to collaboration, which is stressed in the program’s curriculum, and also offers the opportunity to make valuable business connections.
